The 2012 Autumn Poetry Contest runs from September 14 through the 17. This time, we are using the YouTube video, Autumn – Vivaldi, for inspiration. You don’t need to watch the entire piece, a minute should be enough to spark your muse.
Here are the guidelines for the 2012 Autumn Poetry Contest. Please read carefully because there have been several changes.
- Adhere to the prompt- the first minute of the video
- Follow The River Journal by subscription or readers
- Single spaced, 12-pt. Times New Roman font, 30 lines MAX
- Copy poem into the email. Do not send as attachment
- Email entry to contest@theriverjournal.org *
- Subject for email- Autumn12/last name
- Submit original/nonpublished poems
This is a blind contest. The winner will be selected by The River Journal Team. After the top poem is selected, I will notify the winner and then make an announcement on The River Journal Facebook page and Twitter. In the next issue, the winner will be highlighted and the poem shared. The winner also receives a free issue of Brush Strokes & Ink Spots: The First Year. Click here to view past contests.
Good luck! I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

*Some entrants ran into snags with the email last time, while others had no problems at all. If you are experiencing difficulty with the email address, contest@theriverjournal.org, ask yourself these questions:
~Am I typing in the correct email address? Common errors include adding s to contest and using (dot)com rather than (dot)org. IT’S .org
~Am I using a mobile device?

I tried to submit, but got the mail failure message. I copied the contests@theriverjournal.org address, but failed twice.

I enjoyed the prompt…thanks for the contest.

Your most welcome, Gayle!
Gorgeous prompt…..muy bonita
!
I can use a secondary mail client, so I’m okay, but people who can only use Gmail may have a problem. There are options for Georgia, Courier New, and a generic serif font, but no TNR. And the size options are small, normal, large and huge.
That’s if you click on it and try to send it. They only have to copy and paste the email into their email. People do not have to have a secondary email.
You paste into GMail, and it changes the font, love. There is no Times New Roman.
I have sent mine….copy pasted but there is no times new roman in the mail’s option….besides i typed the poem name with autumn 12/..it ought to be my last name, no?..sorry to bother….but should I sent it once more….oops sorry…
It says “You don’t need to watch the entire piece, a minute should be enough to spark your muse” but nr. 1 in the guidelines says “Follow the prompt- the first minute of the video.” Now I am not sure…can we write about something inspired from the latter half of the video or must it be in the first minute? Just want to make sure before I start writing.
the first minute
Thanks for the prompt, autumn is my favorite time of year!
Mine, too!

Hi, just wondering about the autumn challenge. Was a winner announced? I thought so but do not see it onsite. Thanks.
Yes, Patricia. It was announced on The River Journal FB page and Twitter. Look for the winner and the winning poem in the next issue coming in December.
I can’t seem to find you on facebook anymore. When I went to your contact page here and clicked on the facebook icon, I was told the page is not there anymore. So, who is the winner?
Okay, after more digging, I figured out you are the River MUSE. Didn’t know/realize that. Now I’m on ya.
I am on it.
